Intolerance-is when someone is not accepting of a certain person or race. Bob Ewell as is most of the town, is intolerant of Tom Robinson because he is black. Un like Atticus who is a very tolerant man who sees no need to discriminate. Intolerance can apply to any reason why Scout and Jem were made fun of. It could even be about Boo because many people were very apprehensive about him and spread rumors about him because he was different. Scout and Jem where intolerant of Ms.Dbious because she was mean but they found that she was just sick.

Intolerance is when some does not accept another based on his ethnic background. Someone intolerant believes that the person is the cause of a problem. Bob Ewell was very intolerant towards Tom Robinson and Mayela Ewell. He lied about Tom Robinson raping his daughter which is horrible but to make it worse he lied under oath!!!! That’s how far intolerance can go, lying under oath. Also he made his daughter lied that Tom Robinson injured her. When Bob Ewell was drunk he does not care about his daughter all he does is smack her around. Tom and Mayella where either harmed or killed. The worst part was that they were only mockingbirds.

In my own words intolerance is not accepting of a person because of race, appearance or actions. I think Bobby is right about how an intolerant person believes that someone else is the cause of the problem. In the book Bob Ewell is very intolerant to Tom Robinson because of his race. He also did all that he could to get Tom killed. Even with the help of Atticus, who is a very tolerant man for helping a black man, could not be found innocent by the all-white jury. Boo Radley was another person hurt by other intolerant people. Boo was talked about as a freak and almost all passed the rumors about him, but a wise , tolerant man named Atticus Finch once said that "You never really understand a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." After that was said to Jem and Scout the two became more tolerant about Boo by the end of the book. The main things about Boo and Tom was that they were both mockingbirds and as we know it is a sin to kill a mockingbird.

intolerance is when someone doesnt approve or accept someone for their race or background. Atticus Finch was very tolerable person and was very welcoming. He tolered Tom Robinson when no one else in the town would. He also stood up and defened Tom when no one else in town would. Bob Ewell is a very intolerant to Tom or anyone else in town. Even his own family. When Bob gets drunk he doesnt care much of what people think or his own faimly. He also doesnt care much about his daughter, Mayella.
People in town were very intolerant toward Boo. Everyone said he was dangerous and mean. But really at the end he was a mockingbird. Just like Tom was one also.

intolerence- is when someone understand or respect someone of a different background or belief. Bob Ewell is intolerant of Tom Robinson because he is black. He is so intolerant of tom that he blamed him for raping his daughter. Ever though the truth was that Bob beat his daughter for kissing tom. Also Aunt Alexandra is intolerant of Scout because she dresses and acts like a boy. She thinks that Scout should act more lady like. The town is intolerant of Boo Radley becuase they think he is a monster but at the end of the book he turns out to be a gentle man. Intolerence is a big part of To Kill A Mockingbird.

My definition of INTOLERANCE is unwillingness to accept someone based on race or ethnic background. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Bob Ewell shows intolerance towards Tom Robinson. He thinks that just because he is black he should be responsible for a crime he did. He was mad that his daughter liked a black man and that she was going to kiss him. Bob then blames Tom for beating up Mayella and it goes to court for the reason he was black said Atticus. Not only was Bob intolerant, but so was the jury who convicted him. There was no evidence to say he was guilty and the only reason that Tom was guilty was the fact that white over powers and other race such as being black. I agree with the quote Roger said: (Atticus Finch once said that "You never really understand a person until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.") This is true because for one, Tom was only be helpful (and that the kind of person he was) by for doing a good deed and so he was convicted for a crime he never did.

Intolerance is the unwillingness to recognize differences in opinions or beliefs or acceptance of different races. This is evident in “To Kill a Mocking Bird” with the white people of Maycomb county towards African Americans. Mr. Ewell accused Tom Robinson for a crime he didn’t commit and managed to make an all white jury convict him of this crime, although it was obvious Tom Robinson was innocent. This shows the intolerance of the entire jury towards someone of a different race. Intolerance was also shown when the Finch family was teased for defending an African American person. Atticus was tolerant of all people, and raised his kids to look beyond the color of someone’s skin.

Intolerance is the non-acceptance of someone's race based on diffrences from their own race. During the trial against Tom Robinson, many of the people were intolerant of Tom's race, and just because of that, he was found guilty even though all the evedence poiinted away from him. Intolerance causes people to assume other things about a certain race that aren't true, and also causes people to want to distance themselves from that race.
Boo Radley faces intolerance because of the fact that he's black. On top of that, he is kept in his house by his father which caused the townsfolk to think he was dangerous and crazy.

intolerance in my own words means to not accept a person becaese of there race. this is used in the novel when Bob Ewell is in trial with tom Robinson, a black man. Bob acuses Tom of rapping Mayela. Also intolerance can apply when Jem and Scout where walking home from scouts play, suddenly Bob Ewell jumps out of no where and attacks them. Then Boo Radley defended the kids and cares Jem home. All these years people looked at Boo like he was an mean old guy but realy he is an inocent man that has been whaching over Jem and Scout. Another charecter in the book that Scout and Jem where intolerant was Ms.Dbious because she would always act mean to the kid but latter on in the book she was just sick and probably didnt mean all of the bad things that she said to the kids.

Intollerance is when you refuse to accept something. This ties in verry well with the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. One example of intolerance is when Atticus Finch agreed to defend Tom Robinson, a black man, in court. In Maycomd county there was a "code". Whoever didn't follow the code got shunned by the whole town. Another thing that was unexeptable, in the town's opinion, was when evidence in the court room showed that Tom was innocent and that Mayella Ewell was actually the one who had approached Tom. A white woman trying the kiss a black man in those times was social suicide.

Intolerance is when someoneone refuses to accept someone else's opinions or beleifs or refuses to accept someone else's race, ethnic backround or religion. This is shown in "To Kill a Mockingbird" when Tom Robinson goes on trial for raping Mayella Ewell.Tom clearly is an inisant man based on that there is no physical evidence that Tom commited this crime, and the testimony of Bob Ewell who is especially racist towards African-Americans.Intolerance is demonstrated in the jury as well. For example when they found Tom guilty of raping Mayella it was not because of evidence or testimonies,it was solely based on the fact that Tom is black. So this shows the jury was intolerant towards Tom's race. However Atticus was tolerant of everyone and tries to convey throughout the book to his children to not judge someone based solely on the color of their skin, and to not judge someone until you have climbed inside their skin and walked around in it.

The definition of Intolerence is not accepting or refusing to believe a person or group of people based on an ethnic background, religion, or even gender. This is pointed out very well in the novel "To Kill A Mockingbird" during the trail of Tom Robinson. Tom is accused of rape and is a black man, which makes things many times harder for him. Tom's lawyer Atticus is very understanding of him and not racist at all, however Bob Ewell is a a racist and intolerent man when it comes to black people. Bob accuses Tom of raping his daughter Mayella, and even the the evidence is clearly in the favor of Tom Robinson, the jury decides that he is a guilty man, all because they are intolerant of black men

Intolerance is when someone refuses or does not accept someone based on races and their background. In the novel, the character Bob Ewell is very intolerant to Tom Robinson because he is African American and he is falsely is accused of a raping Mayella Ewell even though the real story was that she kissed Tom, and Bob was so mad he beat up Mayella for kissing him. Boo was also a victim of intolerant people because even though he stayed in his house all day, people spread rumors and lies about him. Atticus tries to show Jem and Scout to be tolerant people by respecting Boo.

In my own words intolerance is not being accepting to anybody different than you. Whether it s their race or their gender or even their ethnicity, if you are intolerant then you will not accept them. You wont give that person a fair chance and possibly go the lengths Bob Ewell did and make life even harder that it is for that person. You may also be stubborn and wont change. This relates to the book because Bob is racist or intolerant of Tom, just because he is black.

Intolerance- Intorlerance is unaccepting of a person because of their race, religion or personal apperance. Bob Ewell was very intolerant to Tom Robinson because he was African-American, he saw Mayella trying to kiss Tom but said that Tom raped Mayella and beat her because he was black and she was white. Atticus is a very tolerant man and thinks that everyone should be treated equal,he knows that Tom didn't hurt Mayella because he can't use his left arm.
I agree with Michelle that the town was intolerant to Boo. Because Boo didn't come out of his house often people made up stories about him but in the end he ended up to be a nice and friendly man.

Boo Radley is another intolerance person. There were a lot of rumors about Boo. Boo is kept in his house by his father who caused the townsfolk to think he was dangerous and crazy. He gets his daughter to go along with it, and convinces the town of it as well. Tom Robinson is falsey tried and convicted of a crime he did not commit, ultimeitly causeing his death, all because of one very intolerant man.

In my own words, i think intolerance means to not accept someone because of their race, and appearance. This relates to the novel To Kill A Mockingbird in many ways because of the time period this story takes place in. One way it relates to the story is in the courthouse during Tom Robinson's case, there is a lot of evidence saying that Tom is innocent. Even after the evidence is explained and clearly stated, the judge and jury rules Tom guilty mainly because of his race. Bob and Mayella are white and i think that gives them an advantage towards winning the case in a big way. This was a tough time period for african americans and i think atticus is a person who understood that so he was tolerant toward Tom Robinson.

I think intolerence is when someone doesn't agree with a persons beliefs, because of that conflict they disrespect and treat that person differently from everybody else. In To Kill a Mockingbird many examples of intolerence is shown. One example is when Tom Robinson was being trialed, the blacks were seperated from the whites. The whites sat on the bottom floor while the blacks sat in a balcony. Another time was when Scout's teacher was talking to another women from Maycomb and said how something had to be done about the blacks. Another example is that when Atticus decided to defend Tom, an African American, Scout, Jem, and Atticus were treated differently. The town was being intolerable of a white man defending a black man. Throughout the whole book the author exposes intoleration toward a certain group of people.

Intolerance is when person refuses to accept a nother person because of their background information. Also sometimes its based on their actions or appearences. In the novel, Bob Ewell is very intolerable toward Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson is a colored man, so Bob Ewell treats him horribly by accussing Tom of raping his daughter, which was a lie. Many of the neighbors in Maycomb have spread rumors around about Boo Radley because they never saw him and thought he was weird. These neighbors are all considered intolerable. Atticus Finch was the total oppisite of intolerable. He defended Tom in the trial even though Tom was colored.

In my own words, intolerence is when you cant or are not willing to accept or respest some one of a different race or culture. Intolerence relates to the book "To kill A Mockingbird" because Bob Ewell and almost all of Maycomb county are unwilling to accept Tom Robinson. They are so racist and intilerent thay he is accused of raping a white women, Mayella Ewell. Tom was clearly innocent but he was convicted guilty because everyone in the county and the people were intolerent of Tom. Atticus Finch is tolerent of people of other races so he is Toms lawyer for the case. No matter how many ways Atticus proves that Tom is innocent he is still sent to jail. Tom really did nothing wrong and shouldnt have died. In essince Tom is just like a mockingbird because he did nothing harmful and he was killed, and it iis a sin to kill a mockingbird.

Intolerance means unacceptable no tolerance not accepting belief and different from another person. This relates to the novel To Kill A Mockingbird because Tom Robinson is put to trial for being with a white girl. This was unheard of in the town of Maycomb, Alabama. Even though the girl liked him a lot, she put him on trial for rape because she knew that it was so intolerable she would be an outcast. This intolerance cost Tom Robinson his life. I agree with Roger P. when he said Bob Ewell was very intolerant to Tom Robinson because of his race.

I think that intolerance is when someone doesn’t except someone else for being different than everyone else. This word relates to the novel because Bob Ewell is very intolerant about Tom Robinson just because he was black. When he sees Tom with his daughter Mayella, he automatically says he raped her and he beats Mayella to make it look like Tom did and because of the racism Tom goes to jail instead of Bob. When I read this part of the book I knew there was some racism because there was a lot of evidence such as bob being a left handed person but Tom wasn’t and it looked like Mayella was beaten with a Left hand showing it was probably Bob who did it.

Intolerance is when someone can't accept a person of a different race, talents, or maybe even years. Bob Ewell is a great example of intolerance to anothers race; just because Tom Robinson was black he could be dispossed of easily through an unfair trial. Not only did he lie about Tom raping his daughter under oath but even tried to attack Atticus's kids in cold blood, or that's my opinion. Boo Radley is also a target of intolerance, people immedietly believing the rumors of him and never bothering to think of what he's been through that had made him into what he is, or even just the fact that he never left the house to show the world his face.

Bastonej said...

Intolerance is when somebody or a group of people are not getting accepted by other people. This is relevant in To Kill A Mokingbird to Tom Robinson. He was black and everybody except for the blacks and Atticus and his family were treating him badly and automaticaly thought that he acctually raped Mayella Ewell. Intolerance also comes into account for Atticus and his family. The towns people and even some of the family make fun of Atticus, Scout, and Jem for backing up a black person, which was unheard of at the time. Everybody in town except for Atticus was also intolerable to Boo Radley. The more the stories and the rumors were told the more the town belived that the man was a monster. At the end Scout and Jem and everybody else that told the nasty stories found out that he was a normal, nice man.

Creazzo,T said...

intolerence to me is not accepting someone because they are different. maybe look differnt, diferent race, or maybe just because they have different beliefs. Bob ewell made mayella ewell lie to the court about tom robinson raping her. which wqas obviously not true because Bob ewell said she was beaten on the right side of her face and there were hand marks around her neck. except tom could not have done that because he tore his left arm using a cotton gin when he was twelve. And also bob Ewell is left handed which means he would beat someone more with his left hand than his right hitting someone on the right side of their face instead of the left. Although the evidence was obviously shwoingt that tomwas innocent, the people of the jury still found him guilty. and after he was found guilty he was being taken to jail and tried to escape and was shot in the back several times. Tom in most peoples eyes is a mockingbird...and Bob ewell and mayella are now sinful for killing one.

Intolerance-When a person/persons are unwilling and refuse to accept, respect, or approve of someone or something different to him/herself. Wether it be their race, beliefs or background, he/she refuses to accept it, even if they are prooved wrong about this person or thing. An example of this trait, is shown in the novel , " To Kill a Mockingbird " ( Here on known as "TKAM" ). A character named Bob Ewell, is a poor white man who accuses an African American man of raping his daughter, though it is obvious he has beaten her. She was lonely and tryed to seduce him. When her father caught her, she denied the fact because it was thougt immorally wrong for a white woman to want to touch a balck man. She tells the court he beat her. Her father, Bob, has such a great hate, and intolerance for this man, and the lawyer defending him, he threatens the lawyer, and his children. Bob Ewell failed or refused to realize the black man he was convicting was a human being, and did not want anything to do with his daughter. Because of his great intolerance, he accused an innocent man of such a heinous crime, and eventually was the reason of his death. Thanks to an imaginary reason to hate, an inoccent man died, and all because of intolerance.

Intolerance is not being able to respect other people's opinions, beliefs, their race or their culture. Intolerance applies to the novel. Bob Ewell is intolerant. Bob Ewell accuses Tom Robinson of raping Mayella Ewell. Mayella really came onto Tom. Bob saw this happening and beat Mayella. The Ewells said that Tom really raped her and beat her. The Ewells didn't want the town knowing that Bob beats Mayella, and that Mayella came onto a black man. Bob figured that they would have a strong case because no one would believe a black man. The jury is also intolerant against Tom. They prove him guilty even though there was strong evidence that he was innocent.
The townspeople were intolerant to Boo Radley. Everyone made him out to look like a wild animal and to be a horrible person. Throughout the book we find out though that Boo is a good person. He sews up Jem's pants, puts a blanket around Scout, and leaves Jem and Scout presents in the tree. Boo is always looking out for them. At the end of the book he saves them from being murdered by Bob Ewell.

Intolerance means to not accept someone because of his or her race or of their ethnic background. In the story Bob Ewell and how he treated Tom Robinson showed Intolerance. When Mayella started to ask Tom for help, Tom did it for her for free. This bothered Bob because he didn’t want his daughter associated with a black man like Tom Robinson. To get Tom away from Mayella, Bob Ewell accused Tom Robinson of raping his daughter and all the evidence showed in the trial that Tom didn’t beat her but it was Bob trying to set Tom up and get him away from his daughter. Evidence was that Tom Robinson could not use the hand Bob said he was using.

My definiton of intolerance is when someone does not accept someone or something for how they are. I believe that Bob Ewell is the most intolerant person in the novel. Bob Ewell does not accept Tom Robinson for who he is at all. Most of Bob Ewell's hatred towards Tom Robinson comes from the fact that he is black. Bob Ewell also has a great deal of intolerance towards Jem and Scout. Bob hates Jem and Scout mostly because they are Atticus's children. You can tell that Bob Ewell judges Tom Robinson because during the trial he lied about Tom raping Mayella. You can also tell that Bob does not tolerate Jem and Scout because after the pagent, he tried to kill them both.

intolerance is when someone is not patient with something or someone. it is when you cannot stand the person or thing thats bugging you. in the case of tkam, Bob is very intolerent towards Mayella and Tom. He is very upset with Mayella because she was attracted to a young black man, yet it was kind of Bob's fault because he refused to let Mayella go to school to make friends. i think he was intolerent towards Tom because he refused to believe that his daughter, being a white woman, was attractted to a black man. I think he was in-denial about the whole situation

I think that intolerance means that people do not accept or show any respect to a person based on their race or religious beliefs. I agree with Bobby that Bob Ewell was intolerant towards Tom Robinson because he was black. Atticus is the exact opposite of intolerant. Not only does he respect Tom, but also he agrees to be Tom's lawyer. Even the whole town showed hatred towards Atticus for defending a black man in court. Intolerance can escalade to a much bigger phase then not respecting someone. For example Because of the intolerance that Bob had towards Tom. Tom ended up being falsely convicted of rape, and then later he was shot until he died. That’s how far intolerance can get out of hand.

Intolerance is when someoneone refuses to accept someones opinions or beleifs or refuses to accept someone else's race, ethnic backround or religion. This is relivant in TKAM becasue Tom Robinson is sent on trial for being accused of raping Mayella Ewell.Tom clearly is not a guilty man based on that there is no real evidence that Tom had done these things, and the only thing they have on Tom is the testimony of Bob Ewell who is especially racist towards African Americans. Intolerance is demonstrated in the jury as well. For example they found Tom guilty of raping Mayella but it was not because of evidence,it was only based on the fact that Tom is a blackman and that it is impossable for a black man to feel bad for a white women. So this shows the jury was intolerant towards Tom's race. However u can see how Atticus was tolerant beacaue he took the case and fought his best for Tom. By doing this atticus also shows his kids that u should fight for what you believe in.

Intolerance, to me is a characteristic the explains someone that thinks something is so true and right that the person doesn't listen to anyone trying to tell him different. This is shown in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by the whole town of Maycomb because when Tom goes on trail everyone seems to not evening be listening to Tom speak or all the other suspects talk. This is proven because even though Atticus points out that all the evidence pointed away from Tom, he was still found guilty. Another reason is when Scout, Dyl, and Jem make up all the things about Boo they are so scared of him even though Atticus tells them that Boo is a good person. They all beleave he is such a horrible person until the very end when Scout saw that Boo help save Jem's life.

intolerence is when you dont really accept someone else for who the are.Like you dont accept them because of thier race or ethnicitie. In Maycomb county, many people cannot tolerate black people and they blame them for all thier problems. Attices tolerates Tom Robinson because he knows he's innocent. Jem and scout tolerate Ms. Dubois because they have too (atticus's orders), but in the end, they find out she's sick. Jem and scout tolerate Dill even though he's short because he is fun to be with. Many people dont tolerate Boo so he locks himself up in his house. Innocent people like Boo and Tom arent tolerated because they are different.

Intolerance is the act of not accepting one of a certain race. Bob Ewell is a good example of an intolerant man. He is very intolerant of Tom Robinson just because he is black. After he saw his daughter Mayella with Tom he assumed Tom was raping her. This is seen as Bob take Tom to court. Boo Radley is another character who the townsfolk are intolerant towards, there are rumors that they spread about him. Even when he is a gentle and very kind person. Atticus shows how tolerant he is by understanding Tom and Boo, he even defends Tom in the case against Bob Ewell and the townspeople. "There is no greater sin than to kill a mockingbird."

Intolerance means when someone is not tolerant of that person for whatever reason. It could be because or their race, color, ethnicity, gender, and many other things. Intolerance applies to the novel in many ways, Bob Ewell is intolerant of Tom Robinson, because of his race, blames him for raping and beating his daughter. When in actuality, Tom Robinson did nothing, and Bob Ewell saw his daughter try to kiss Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell ran inside and beat his daughter. The people in Maycomb County were intolerant of Atticus defending Tom Robinson, an African American. They would talk about how Atticus shouldn’t be defending him; even his own sister didn’t support him in his decision. The people in Maycomb would not only penalize him, but they would also talk bad about him to Jem and Scout.

Intolerance is someone who refuses to accept someone who is different from them or believes in something that they don't. Bob Ewell didn't except Tom Robinson because he was black. Scout was intolerated by her Aunt Alexandra because of the way she acted and dressed. Scout was a tomboy. With Tom Robinson this also deals with racism. Bob Ewell assumed that Tom was guilty not just because he walked in on Tom and Mayella, but because Tom was black, so he’s assuming Tom did something wrong. The fact that Tom ran away after that made Bob really think that he raped Mayella.

Intolerance to me means that someone is incapable of accepting or believing in another person because they are not of the same race or ethnicity as them. Intolerance applies to the novel because of Tom Robinson’s trial. There was absolutely no evidence that Tom had raped Mayella, yet the jury still convicted Tom as guilty. Bob Ewell is a good example of intolerance as well. He always thinks the worst of a colored person and purposely attempts to get them in trouble. When he saw Mayella and Tom together he automatically assumed that Tom had taken advantage of her simply because of his skin color.
