I have seen many movies based on the conflicts of Romeo and Juliet. One movie that I've seen is West Side Story. To replace the feuding families, there are two street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. Tony, a former Jet, wants to move on with his life. He will always love his friends but what's the point in fighting? Maria is the sister of Bernardo, leader of the Sharks. The two meet at a party where they fall in love, and they are forbidden to see each other. Tony dies in Maria's arms, where the two gangs decide to put the past behind them and cary off Tony's body. I have also seen the movie Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. Katey, the main character, schooled by her parents in ballroom dancing, is expected to join other american teenagers at a hotel. She then is drawn to the busboy, Javier, who she takes dance lessons from. She keeps this a secret from her mother and father because she knows they would not approve of the dance style she was learning. Her and Javier fall in love. and enter a dance contest at the country club. Javier and Katey enter without her parents knowing and at one point some of Javier's friends and relatives get involved in a shooting. Katey must go back to America, but will she ever see Javier again?
In then play, "Romeo and Juliet" there is a conflict between the Moneque’s and the Capulet’s which they no longer remember. This play, illustrates the ideas of street fighting, revenge and family feuds. For the last independent reading, i read the novel "The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton, which illustrates these three main ideas. The Greasers and the Soc's are two gangs who are always fighting. They fight around town in the parks and on the streets like the Moneque’s and the Capulet’s. An example of revenge is when Johnny (a greaser) is attacked by a Soc and threatens to kill anyone else who trys to commit another attack again. Next time he was attacked, he killed a Soc with his knife. As said, both these gangs have a feud because they dislike each other because of whom they are and how they act. In the play "Romeo and Juliet," Romeo's and Juliet's families dislike each other and whenever one another see each other, there is sure to be a conflict.
There are a lot of movies and T.V. shows that have similar themes the Romeo and Juliet. Disobeying parents comes up a lot in many teen shows. For example the newer episodes of Gossip Girl have been about Jenny Humpfree growing up and trying to live life like she grew up on the upper east side like the other girls at her school. To do so she does things her father tells her not to do. After Jenny stole the dress she has not fully earned her fathers trust back so when she asked to meet her new boyfriend Asher in the park for hotdogs he said no, but she hung out with him anyway. Also, this week Asher and Jenny were throwing Jenny's first upper east side party but she told her father that she was going to chorus practice. Her dad read through her e-mails and found out she was lying and lost all respect for her. In Romeo and Juliet the two lovestruck teens go behind their their fighting parents back and meet.
The only book I have read that relates to Romeo and Juliet’s was Bone by Bone by Bone. David a 9 year old white boy can not play with his black friend Malcolm because his father is racist towards black people. Romeo and Juliet’s families keep them apart. This is like in Bone by Bone by Bone because a family is keeping their kids away from each other. Unlike Romeo and Juliet only one family hates the other, not both families hate each other. Both novels have a similar concept family’s feud over who their kids should hang out with and who they should stay away from. David can not hang out with Malcolm and Romeo can not go on dates with Juliet. Both novels end in Tragedy. Romeo and Juliet die and Malcolm dies in Bone by Bone by Bone. Rome and Juliet end the hate in their families while David removes the racism in his family.
I believe that the novel, The Outsiders is very similar to the street fighting in Romeo and Juliet. They both have two groups of people that are fighting against each other. In Romeo and Juliet there are the Capulet’s and the Montague’s, and in The Outsiders there are the Socs and the Greasers. Each piece of literature has one main fight in the street. When the Capulet’s and Montague’s were fighting they got caught by the Prince and he threatened them to never fight again or face death. When the Greasers and the Socs were fighting, the police were very similar to the prince because they like the prince were trying to stop the gang fights going on in the streets.
There are a variety of different of different book and movies based or have a similar subject matter to the play "Romeo and Juliet." An example in my mind would be the musical,"West Side Story" which was written in 1957. The musical contains a rivalry between two teenage gangs of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Tony, who belongs to the white gang, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the rival Puerto Rican gang. The gangs struggle for control of the neighborhood. All the while this is being put to music and danced to during various scenes and acts.Later in the musical Tony feels there is no longer anything to live for, he then leaves to find Chino(selected by Maria's family to marry her), begging for him to kill him to which he later does. As Tony dies in Maria's(Tony's love) arms, the Jets and Sharks which are the two rival gangs arrive around the lovers.Maria then collapses in greif and thus ends the cycle of violence that has engulfed the neighborhood.
In the play “Romeo and Juliet” there are two families the Montague’s and the Capulet’s. These two families have an ancient feud. This feud is so old that no one remembers what they’re mad at each other for. The novel I feel best relates to this play is “The Outsiders” because they both pieces of literature demonstrate two families that hate each other fighting practically where ever they meet and family and friends standing up for each other. The Socs and the Greasers always fight in parks and streets in their town just like the Montague’s and Capulet’s.
Probably the most recent book that I have read that relates to "Romeo and Juliet" was "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. The two families in Romeo and Juliet, the Capulets and the Monteques, are strikingly similar to the two gangs in The Outsiders, the Greasers and the Socs. these two gangs have been rivals for god knows when. During the novel, Ponyboy a greaser, constantly gets attacked by the Socs. Many of the times the two gangs break out in violence on the streets. Revenge is another key concept in this book, for example, once Ponyboy was attack by the fountain, him and the greasers fight off the Socs that attacked him. These two gangs like the two families in Romeo and Juliet are always fighting and arguing. There's no holding back once these fights begin
"Romeo and Juliet" share themes such as Love at first sight and Family Feuds, which makes it a very popular story. Another story which I know of is the play "West Side Story" which features two rival gangs of different backgrounds. The main character, Tony, falls in love with Bernardo's (The leader of the enemy gang) sister, who is Maria. Even though they love eachother, Tony and Maria could not be together peacefully since they are of different gangs. What really makes this play a tragedy, is the fact that Tony dies in Maria's arms due to the fights between the gangs. This leaves both Maria, and Tony's gang devistated, and so the fued between the two gangs is settled due to Tony's sacrifise. I think the ending of West Side Story will be very similar to that of Romeo and Juliet, since they are both tragic plays.
Many books and movies have been made that relate to Romeo and Juliet. One of these is a baseball movie called Hardball. This movie is about a man who is an alcoholic, and he has to coach a baseball team, and the team that he is coaching for, has a rival town. These two towns have been rivals in sports for as long as anyone can remember, but their rivalry is resolved. It is the championship game, and the most important game of the season, but something tragic happens. In the middle of the game, one of the players on the team named G-Baby gets shot and dies. And after this tragic event, the two teams come together for the sake of G-Baby, and his sacrifice, brings the rivalry to an end. This is closely related to Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" because the two families, the Capulets and the Montagues hate each-other, but when Romeo and juliet kill themselves, the families come together, and stop fighting
There have been many articles of interest that I've seen that are alot like Romeo and Juliet (actually if you think about it, quite a few dramatic movies are similar to it in many many ways. I Think that probaly the most interesting example would be an adaptation of Romeo and Julet, actually titled Romeo x Juliet as it is very loosely related to the orignal.
The story follows along the lines that in the floating city of Neo Verona, the Capulets and Montague rule side by side, and have been for hundreds of years. But suddenly, Montague cuts down the Capulets and assumes the rule of Neo Verona. Montague, sure that he is now in complete control of Neo Verona, begins his dictatorship. Secretly, the only surviving daughter of the Capulets, Juliet, was spirited away and hidden. 14 years later, Juliet is turning 16, and has been raised as a boy her entire life. The people she lives with tell her that on her birthday, her past will be revield to her, but going to a party with a friend at the palace, things begin to go horribly wrong...Juliet also meeting Romeo, son of Arch Duke Montague and heir to the throne, her arch enemy who she is told she must kill to avenge her mudered family, only a couple hours after their meeting.
In the play, "Romeo and Juliet," two families are in a feud and are fighting with each other. The two families are the Capulet's and the Montagues. A book that i have read that best relates to this play is "The Outsiders," by S.E. Hinton. The book is about two gangs, the Greasers and the Soc's, who are fighting with each other and they cannot stand each other. They fight on streets like the Montagues and Capulets do. Like the old man in the movie who got hurt by the fighting, there is a guy named Johnny who gets hurt really bad in the book. The next time he is attacked, he kills the kid with a knife. Although this gets the soc's even more in a fued with the greasers, this shows how fighting resolves nothing and can only cause problems. Also another similarity is the prince in "Romeo and Juliet" and the police in "The Outsiders." They are similiar because the prince threatens to kill anyone who dares to disturb the public again and the police will arrest anyone who he sees killing or hurting anyone. I see a lot of similarities in these two works of literature and the only way to stop the fighting is with death, of two very important characters in "Romeo and Juliet," and one two very important and loved characters in "The Outsiders."
There are many books and movies that relate to the play of “Romeo & Juliet”. In the play there’s fighting between two different types of families. In the book there’s fighting between two gangs. The Monique’s and the Capulet’s both hate each other. In the book the Greasers and the Soc's are two gangs who are always fighting. Like in the play the two gangs fight around their community or where ever they see each other. The only thing that stops the fighting in both peaces is the death of someone. Both peaces of literature illustrate feud, revenge and hate and I think that these factors are the ones that make both peaces interesting.
The family feuds between the Capulets and the Montagues are related to many books such as "The Outsiders" and moves like "West Side story". All three of these stories has 2 groups of people who have a great amount of dislike for each other to the point in which they fight each other. In "The Outsiders" two gangs known as the socs and the greasers always either fight or disrespect members of the other gang. This leads to more fighting which eventually reaches the point to where one of the gang members of the greasers kills a member of the socs. The character and his other greasers’ friends must hide to avoid being arrested. The movie "West Side Story" involved two gangs know as the jets and the sharks who also repeatedly fight, but this story has an ironic twist more similar to the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet because a member of a gang names Tony falls in love with the leader of the enemies gang Maria. Although they both love each other very much, they know they can never be together.
Romeo & Juliet and the West Side Story are both amazing stories that end in tragedy. They are both different, yet based on the same story line. Both works, in essence, have the same plot. The source of violence in Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story is the hatred between families and between gangs. Two families with a feud focused their lives on fighting with each other rather than attempting to get along and accept the differences between them. The feud has been going on for centuries. Two lovers, oblivious to the others heritage, fall in love. They kissed and rejoice, before knowing the others name. Soon they learned of the others heritage, but it is too late to back out of such love.
The movie Dirty Dancing, has a similar concept as Romeo and Juliet. During Dirty Dancing, the main character, Baby, instantly falls in love with one of the men< Johnny, who work at a club where she spends her summer vacation at. The workers dislike the people who are part of the club because they believe they are all snobby, rich people who don't have to work hard at all to make a living; and the wealthy families believe the workers are the lower class and don't treat them as well as they should. Once Baby and Johnny start talking, and become friendlier, they start hanging out and dancing with eachother more often. Once Baby's father hears they are together a lot, he gets really upset because he heard a lot of bad rumors about Johnny and doesn't want his daughter to be with someone who is a bad influence and does not want her seeing him. Baby sneaks out of the house and lies to her parents where she is going for the rest of the summer to see Johnny just like Romeo and Juliet have to do.
The Notebook is a movie that shares a similar theme with Romeo and Juliet. In both stories, there are two characters who come from different backgrounds. In the Notebook, a poor man falls in love with a wealthy woman. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet are from two very different families that do not get along with each other.
Another modern day movie that shares a theme with Romeo and Juliet is Just Married. The theme conveyed in both is love at first sight. In Just Married, two young characters fall in love the first time they ever meet. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet fall in love at a party before knowing barely anything about each other.
There is a wide variety of novels, movies, and T.V shows that relate to the play "Romeo and Juliet" in my point of view one that relates the closet is "West Side Story" it is about to gangs that fight on the street constantly and one fighter falls in love with a girl from the enemy gang. That’s how "West Side Story" relates to "Romeo and Juliet".
For my independent reading assignment I am reading Bone By Bone By Bone. It is about a white boy living in the 1950’s when a lot of racial segregation is going on. He befriends an African American secretly. He does this secretly because his father, whom is very strict, does not allow Black people hanging around with his son. The boy must disobey his father in order to see his best friend. This relates to the play Romeo &Juliet by William Shakespeare because Romeo is in love with Juliet, however they are both enemies and are forbidden to see each other by their masters or parents. Like the characters in Bone By Bone By Bone they must disobey their masters in order to see one another.
One story that reminds me of Romeo and Juliet is the Titanic. It reminds me of this because Jack and Rose are in love but Jack is poor and Rose is very wealthy and she is also being forced to marry a man she doesn't love just like Juliet is suppose to marry Paris in two years. In the end Jack gives up his life for Rose because they can’t both fit on the piece of driftwood and he freezes to death. In Romeo and Juliet, both Romeo and Juliet die. Both heroes give up their lives for the ones they love.
There are many different books with love at first sight and disobeying parents. In the novel Romeo and Juliet when the two star-crossed lovers meet they don’t know who the other one is but know that its love and that they are meant to be. In the novel The Alchemist Santiago doesn’t know who the girl is by the water pool but knows that them two are meant to be. Santiago feels as if he knows Fatima even though he doesn't. Thats true love at first sight. Though other themes in the novel are not the same the concept of true love at first sight is.
I think that Romeo and Juliet is like many novels or movies. Some are West-side story and titanic. In Westside story there is the sharks and the jets and Tony is from the Jets but falls in love with a woman who is the sister to a shark. They are in love but it is forbiden becasue their families have been fighting for a long time. Tony ends up dieing like in Romeo and Juliet in the end when they cant be together they both end up dieing. Titanic is like Romeo and Juliet because Rose and Jack are from complete different socail rankings but end up falling in love. They are not forbiddne becasue of a fight between their parents or families but forbidden becasue their familes are from diferent social classes. In Romeo and Juliet they are forbidden to see eachther becasue of a fued between families even though they are in the same social class. Also like Romeo and Juliet and Westside story they would never be able to be together so in the end Jack dies from freezing to death.
I think that Romeo and Juliet link to many movies and stories today. The concept of love at first sight is a very popular subject among movies and books. The movie twenty seven dresses showed exactly that. In the movie this one girl goes to all of her friends weddings and helps them with the food picking, dress picking, and everything that goes along with weddings. She had been to 27 of them when she met this one guy at her friend's wedding. He looked at her once and knew she was the one. At first she wasn't that interested because she didn't believe in love or marriage. Then after about a week, she started returning his phone calls because there was something about him that attracted her to him. They went out a lot and she realizes that he is the only one that she has been able to open up to. She then realizes she loves him as much as he loves her and the movie ends with them getting married. This reminds me of Romeo and Juliet because they were both attracted to each other in the beginning but once they found out who they each were, they were a little set back.
