Manslaughter: Involuntary
Involuntary manslaughter usually refers to an unintentional killing that results from recklessness or criminal negligence, or from an unlawful act that is a misdemeanor or low-level felony (such as DUI). The usual distinction from voluntary manslaughter is that involuntary manslaughter (sometimes called "criminally negligent homicide") is a crime in which the victim's death is unintended.
EXAMPLE: Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. Distraught, Dan heads to a local bar to drown his sorrows. After having five drinks, Dan jumps into his car and drives down the street at twice the posted speed limit, accidentally hitting and killing a pedestrian.
Manslaughter: Voluntary
Voluntary manslaughter is commonly defined as an intentional killing in which the offender had no prior intent to kill, such as a killing that occurs in the "heat of passion." The circumstances leading to the killing must be the kind that would cause a reasonable person to become emotionally or mentally disturbed; otherwise, the killing may be charged as a first-degree or second-degree murder.
EXAMPLE: Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. In the heat of the moment, Dan picks up a golf club from next to the bed and strikes Victor in the head, killing him instantly.
Murder: First Degree
First-degree murder is defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, meaning that it was committed after planning or "lying in wait" for the victim.
EXAMPLE: Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. Three days later, Dan waits behind a tree near Victor's front door. When Victor comes out of the house, Dan shoots and kills him.
Murder: Second degree
Second-degree murder is ordinarily defined as 1) an intentional killing that is not premeditated or planned, nor committed in a reasonable "heat of passion" or 2) a killing caused by dangerous conduct and the offender's obvious lack of concern for human life. Second-degree murder may best be viewed as the middle ground between first-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter.
EXAMPLE: Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. At a stoplight the next day, Dan sees Victor riding in the passenger seat of a nearby car. Dan pulls out a gun and fires three shots into the car, missing Victor but killing the driver of the car.

To Mouse is similar to of mice and men because the poem gives us a general statement about the book Of Mice and Men.
And leave us naught but grief and pain is a quote from the poem that describes the book. George is forced to kill Lennie and Lennie has killed Curley's wife. All Lennie and George were trying to reach their dream or promised joy but instead Lenny is dead and George probably will not reach his dream. George had to pick from either having to kill Lenny or force him to suffer a shot from the stomach and being lynched. Even though it was a tough decision George spared Lenny the Guilt, the humiliation and the pain of being torched.
This isn’t the first time there dream went wrong. Lenny also touched a woman’s red dress and George and Lenny had to leave town.
Dreams left them nothing bout grief and pain.
The title “Of Mice and Men” relates to the poem because they both talk about dreams and how they can go very bad leaving you with grief and pain or how they can go very well leaving you with promised joy. George and Lennie’s dream is to have their own piece of land and grow things on it but their dream requires a lot of money which they don’t have. I think that John Steinbeck chooses this title because it shows that many dreams, even ones that are well planned out do not go as expected for many people. I think that George and Lennie feel that they are going to reach this dream over time because of how they stick up for and take care of each other. What they don’t realize is that their dream is not very well planned out and that could lead to grief and pain like it does at the end of the story. At the end of the book, Lennie ends up killing Curley’s wife and George is forced to kill Lennie which is practically the opposite of what their original dream is. I think that this was a good title for this story by John Steinbeck because of the circumstances that George and Lennie end up being in.
The poem and the novel "Of Mice and Men" are closely related because the main ideas of both are basicly identical. John Steinbeck named his novel after this poem because it describes the main message of the novel in four sentances, instead of about 110 pages. George and Lennie had a dream, and it was getting close to coming true, but Lennie does another one of his "bad things" which eventaully causes George to kill Lennie himself, because there was no better way out of that situation. George and Lennie were almost garenteed to fufill their dream, or the joy in the poem. But because Lennie does something bad, George has to do what is right, and is left with nothin but grief and pain. Because Robert Burns' poem and Steinbeck's novel are so closely related, it is easy to see why Steinbeck chose the title that he did.
The title of the novel relates to the story because Lennie befriends the mice and its helps him through his tough time and makes him feel comfortable around his own surroundings. Lennie likes mice because he has a disability which makes him act like a little kid which makes him want to touch and feel soft things like a little kid would do. The poem “To a Mouse” relates to the theme of the story because the poem is basically saying that the scheme of mice and men goes wrong and leaves us with grief and pain. In the end of the story it ends with grieve and pain because Lennie kills Curly’s Wife and later George kills Lennie. The mouse represents a death or a bad thing that is about to happen and the mouse also foreshadows something bad that happens in the novel, for example Lennie killing Curly’s Wife and George killing Lennie at the end of the novel.
The title of Of Mice and Men comes from the poem To A Mouse because both of these pieces of literature are very similar. Both pieces share the same message, that the best of dreams often go wrong and leave the dreamers with grief and pain. In the novel Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George dream of owning their own ranch. George has a special place already picked out. "we're gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an' a cow and some pigs."(14) When George was talking to Candy, he said that "I think i knowed from the very first. I think I knowed we'd never do her."(94) George knew from the beginning that their dream would never come true. He only went through with it because he knew that it made Lennie happy. At the end of the novel, we learned that the dream will not be accomplished. Lennie ends up killing Curly's wife and was pursued as a fugitive. George then finds him and talks about the dream they have. He then takes out Crook's lugar and shoots Lennie in the head. George felt that Lennie should be shot by himself because Lennie had killed Curly's wife and was very difficult to handle. He was an obstacle that separated George from reaching his own dreams. I feel that John Steinbeck did a excellent job in choosing the title of the novel, Of Mice and Men from the poem To A Mouse because they both share the same message, that the best of dreams often go wrong and leave the dreamers with grief and pain.
The title Of Mice and Men relates to the poem “To a Mouse” by both having a positive outcome. In the poem “To a Mouse” its stating that when something in our life goes wrong too not look at it with anger and grief, but as a stepping stone too a larger goal that is processing. The novel Of Mice and Men gets its title from this poem. In the novel Lennie and George have a dream to own their own land and raise rabbits and have a good life where they can live of the fat of the land. Then Lennie does something bad and goes to hide in the brush back where they first settled in the 2nd to 3rd page of the book. George meets Lennie there, George knows he has to kill Lennie in order to a have a better life. After George killed Lennie George was struck with pain and grief, but he new that now Lennie would be where he wanted to be tending the rabbits on their own land. The novel is titled Of Mice and Men because they had a great idea, something went wrong, George was struck with grief, but realized that Lennie is now where he wanted to be. Just like the poem “To a Mouse”
This poem relates to the novel of mice and men by when it says "the best laid schemes o'mice and men,(often go wrong)" This relates to Goerge and Lennie because they both had a dream that they thought was the best and hoped would eventually happen. Lennie is always asking goerge to tell him about the dream and after a while goerge believes that they really can get it. In the end when Lennie accidently kills Curleys Wife Lennie runs and hides behind the brush waiting for goerge to come. When goerge does come he has to kill Lennie because hes done such a bad thing that he cant escape it. Lennie will either get locked up in jail or an assylum but if he is killed he will live in a better plae and will be able to tend the rabits whenever he wants. SO goerge shoots him and now realizes they cant get the land that they've been dreaming about.
To A mouse is almost identical to Of Mice and Men. The idea is very similar, on that each the poem and the novel has a dream or a goal. Even though Of Mice and Men is much longer they each have the same principle. When Lennie and George go to the ranch they meet up with Candy and he says he could give them $350 to go to the dream plot of land that they always wanted. The whole novel they men looked to this dream as a source of encouragement. When times were bad the two men always looked to this goal to make them feel better an to work towards this great goal.
"The best laid schemes o'mice and men
Gang aft agley [often go wrong]"
This connects very much to Of Mice and Men because they had a scheme to get themselves out of the working world and into a place where they could live happily ever after. Unfortunately they poem was correct about the best laid schemes. Lennie and Georges scheme went work when Lennie did a bad thing, killing Curly's wife. This was a very sad part of the novel and George killed Lennie. This was very tragic and it all happened because the best laid schemes almost always go wrong.
The title of the novel relates to the story very well. The story is about dreams and how because of one man there dreams change and cause grief and pain. Lenny and George dream has always been put on hold because of Lenny. In weed Lenny causes a problem with women and they have to run away and didn’t get the money they need to start there farm. This same situation accord on the farm when Lenny kills Curleys wife and it causes grief because George has to kill Lenny. This stops Lenny and Georges quest to achieving there dream and also takes away dreams from the whole group of people. For example Candy now can’t start a farm with the men and has to stay on the farm for the rest of his life. George now has the grief and pain of going and killing Lenny a man who was his best friend. The poem describes how one joyous thing like a dream could cause so much grief and pain and that is exactly what occurred in this story.
Both the poem and the novel "Of Mice and Men" are closely related to each other in many ways.ONe way is contained in the first line of the poem that states,"The best laid schemes o'mice and men."This connects to the novel because of George and Lennie's dream of owning their own ranch and doing everything for themselves, this represents the plan that the first line of the poem is mentioning. The second line states,"Gang aft agley."This connects to the novel of how George and Lennie's dream fell apart when Lennie killed Curley's wife and Lennie was forced to run away from the ranch. The third line of the poem says,"And leave us nought but greif and pain."This almost exactly describes how both Lennie and George feel once Lennie kills Curley's wife.Lennie feels scared that George will be mad at him, while George feels greif that he will always need to take the heat for Lennie and that it is just not worth it.This ultimatly causes George to shoot Lennie to end both their suffering.
The title of the novel, "Of Mice and Men" relates to the poem "To A Mouse" because the moral of the poem is that dreams sometimes leave you with nothing in life. This is the exact ending of the novel "Of Mice and Men". Lennie and George develop a dream and in the end, this dream that Lennie kept believing in, goes straight to the ground after Lennie murders Curley's wife. Whether intentional or non-intentional, this still got both the men into trouble. Lennie had to go hide in the brush because that is what he was told to do, and George has to find a way to stall Curley from killing Lennie. This turns out as George killing Lennie because he would rather Lennie be immediately killed, rather than suffer in pain.
Throughout the novel, George kept telling Lennie that they were going to own a great piece of land with a farm on it and that Lennie would be able to tend the rabbits. George says this just to keep Lennie working and to give him something to look forward to in life. In the end, neither one of them get the dream.
The poem To a Mouse deffenitly relates to the novel Of Mice and Men. In the poem, it speaks of plans being laid by men, and how even if they are the best plans, they can still go wrong and leave us in pain. In the novel George and Lennie have plans made to get a peice of land of their own, they talk about this often, and have it planned out very well. Just like in the poem, their plans don't work out and things go wrong. In the end both George and Lennie are left in pain, George is all alone, and Lennie is dead. John Steinback deffintly titled his novel very well.
The title “Of Mice And Men” relates to the poem because Lennie and George both have the dream of owning their own farm, but it was ruined when Curly’s wife was found dead. George, Lennie, and Candy had a good plan; they would work till the end of the month get enough money and buy the farm from the old lady. Just like the poem it left them with grief and pain when their plan went awry.
To A Mouse relates to Of Mice And Men in many ways. The poem shows that things often go wrong but in the end the promise happiness. The poem also shows that you should make the best out of a bad situation, and it will all work out in the end. In the book, Lenny and George go through many bad situations. George promises, even when times are rough, that he and Lenny will eventually have their own farm and be happy. George may not fully believe in everything he says, but it is important to George that Lenny is happy. When times get really tough for Lenny and George, George promises Lenny that in the end they will both be happy and Lenny can tend to the rabbits. In the end of the book, Lenny gets into a lot of trouble. George realizes that if he lets Curly and the other boys get to Lenny, they will make Lenny be in pain. The most important thing to George is that Lenny is happy. That is why I think George shot Lenny. He shot him because he knew once he was in heaven, he wouldn't get in trouble anymore, and he would be happy.
The title of the Novel “Of Mice and Men comes from a poem called “To A Mouse” by Robert Burns in many ways. In the poem they say “The best laid schemes o'mice and men Gang aft agley [often go wrong] /And leave us naught but grief and pain /For promised joy!” This quote is saying that the best plans often go wrong and give us pain. This connects to the novel because Lennie and George are talking about buying there own place. “An’ live off the fatta the lan’. Lennie shouted. ““we will have a big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch and chickens”. This is a very good idea for these two men even though they probably could not afford it. George feels a lot of pain when he has to kill Lennie and his whole plan is canceled. Candy also feels pain because he believed it was a very god idea and he was going with them. That is how these two literature pieces connect to each other.
John Steinbeck uses the poem's name to refer to his own novel Of Mice and Men. This poems stats that no matter how hard you try to make a full proof plan, the best ones always have a flaw.” The best laid schemes o'mice and men
Gang aft agley [often go wrong]." George and Lennie both have a dream to live on a ranch with a lot of land and have many animals, crops, and especially rabbits [for Lennie]! Their plan was well thought out, but in order to buy such a paradise they would need money. Their flaw was that they were low on cash. Over time they realize that they need money , so they allow the old swamper, Candy, to join them in their dream to happiness. Unfortunately, Lennie is not so smart in the head but is so strong that he doesn’t realize that he kills things not meant to be killed. "And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck." At this part of the novel is the main turning point for the main characters. George, who put up with Lennie's disability, is now forced to kill his best friend. I think that this was a good title for this novel because of the circumstances that George and Lennie end up being in.
The title “Of Mice and Men” relates to the poem “To a Mouse” because they both give the same meaning to a dream. Although the poem is much shorter than the novel, the theme is very similar. In the novel, George and Lennie have a dream in which they have already planned out perfectly. They want to buy a house together and “live on the fatta the lan”. At the end of the novel, their dream becomes destroyed when Lennie’s does something terribly wrong and George forces himself to kill Lennie. Their dream never came true, and now Lennie was dead. In the poem, the author, Robert Burns states that the best laid out schemes usually do not work out and only leave us with grief and pain. Although you need to go much deeper in the book to find the real meaning than in the poem, they both express the same idea.
The poem and the novel, “Of Mice and Men” relate to one another in many ways. When it says, “The best laid schemes o'mice and men Gang aft agley [often go wrong] /And leave us naught but grief and pain /For promised joy!” The poem is saying that everyone has a dream or a goal that they would like to reach. But when trying to reach that goal or dream, many things could or go wrong. It also leaves you with a lot of grief and pain if you do not accomplish it. This is exactly what George and Lennie went trough. They had a dream that they knew wouldn’t be easy to reach. Many things went wrong for it not to happen. Like when they lost their jobs in weed and had to go find a new one. George and Lennie did many things for the joy and pleasure of their dream of land. George had to go through a lot of grief dealing with Lennie and all the problems he had caused. He also had to kill Lennie so he could be relieved of grief from his problems and get the chance to live out his dream in heaven. The poem does a very well job on explaining the novel.
The poem “To a Mouse” relates to Of Mice and Men because, Lennie and George are on an adventure to fulfill their dream to own their own land.
"The best laid schemes o'mice and men" relates to the story by saying that Lennie and George actually believe it is possible for them to get their own land and that they aren't just like every other rancher. They go for it and don't just use up their money and fool themselves into believing that they can pull it off.
"Gang aft agley [often go wrong]/ And leave us nought but grief and pain" States that when they get themselves into believing they can get the land Lennie does another bad thing. When Lennie kills Curley's wife, George realizes that he has to kill Lennie to stop him form doing all these bad things. The accident in Weed proves that something like this has happened before. Lennie just wanted to feel the women’s dress because he likes soft things and she accused him of rape and drove them out of town. George cares for Lennie and they have been together for a long time but, he knows that if he doesn't let Lennie go without any pain, he knows Curley will make him suffer. After it is over George can't believe that he killed his best friend, but he knows that it was best for both of them.
The poem means that even the most planned out schemes can go wrong. When they go wrong you'll be filled with greif and pain instead of the joy that you hoped from accomplishing it. "To A Mouse" relates to the title "Of Mice and Men". In the poem, it talks about how the best schemes (dreams/plans) often go wrong. George and Lennie's dream to own their own land went wrong and didn't happen. It also talks about how the schemes often leave only greif and pain instead of the joy that you promised yourself. George had to kill Lennie with filled him with greif and pain. George knew how much Lennie looked forward to their dream coming true and how much he looked forward to tending for the rabbits. Having to kill Lennie and knowing that his dream will never come true brought him pain. I think John Steinback chose this title because in the poem it says "The best laid schemes o'mice and men". The title Of Mice and Men refers to George and Lennie because they are the main characters in the story that have a dream. I also think that Steinback making Lennie like to pet mice had something to do with the title.
The title Of Mice And Men Is related to the poem “To a mouse” Because they both convey the idea that all people have dreams no matter how big or small but somehow the dreams that they have never become reality because something goes wrong. Also they are related because the first line of the poem is “the best laid schemes o’ mice and men” in the first line of the poem it says o’ mice and men and that is later the name of the novel by john Steinbeck. The second line of the poem says “Gang aft agley” which means often go wrong. And that is exactly what happens. Lennie and George have a dream of living on a ranch with rabbits, an alfalfa patch and a big house where they could no be bothered by anyone and they could live alone, but their there dream goes wrong when Lennie is talking to Curly’s wife and he accidentally kills her. Lennie is a wanted man so George has to shoot him in the back of the head to put him out of his misery because curly would have shot him and then hung him so he had a slow painful death but George does the right thing and kills him painlessly.
The poem explains how even the best planned out schemes can go wrong and leave you upset. The poem relates to the novel Of Mice and Men because in the novel the two main characters Lennie and George have a dream to live in a small house on a piece of land and own their own farm and have rabbits and cows and pigs and many other animals. During the novel a fellow co-worker named Candy offers to give half of his money to George and Lennie if they let him live in the house and help wash dishes and other chores. That's when George realizes that their dream might actually come true, so as the started to plan it some things went wrong. Their dream didn't happen, and even though they were planning it, it didn't come true and they were just left upset. The biggest dream that Lennie and George had, just left them upset with grief and pain.
The title of Mice and Men comes from the poem To a Mouse because both writings are similar. I think that both of these pieces share the exact same message that the best of dreams can often fail and leave the dreamers with nothing but grief and pain. Lennie and George both dream about owning a piece of land together in the novel Of Mice and Men. George knows that this will never happen but he does not want to disappoint Lennie so he keeps the dream out their. At the end of the novel, we see that the dream is not reached because Lennie kills Curley’s wife and George shoots Lennie in the back of the head. One way that both are connected is in the first line of the poem that states, “The best laid schemes o'mice and men.” This connects to the novel because George and Lennie both dream of owning their own piece of land with a ranch. The third line of the poem says, “And leave us nought but grief and pain." This connects because it describes that George and Lennie are disappointed in what Lennie has done when he has killed Curley’s wife. George ends up killing Lennie because he had to since Lennie was holding George back from reaching his own dreams. The novel Of Mice and Men and the poem To a Mouse both share the same message, that the best of dreams can often go wrong and leave the dreamers with nothing but grief and pain.
The poem is directly connected to the novel because, the end of the poem "For promised joy." is like George, Lennie and Candy's dream of the ranch. George promised Lennie they'd get the ranch and "the best plans of mice and men often go wrong" is like saying that Lennie was the mice and George was the man because George controlled Lennie and even though they thought they had their dream planned out so well, it went wrong. "Leave us nought grief and pain" also relates to the book because even how unwillingly George killed Lennie but all the time he repeated how nice the ranch would be and he left him nothing but happiness as he killed him. The Title for the book, Of Mice and Men is a very good title because by understanding the poem you understand the book even more than you thought you had.
First off I just want to say that there dream should be called a goal. A goal is something that you can do within your ability. A dream is something that is very far stretched and hard to do however very desirable. Lennie and George in the novel keep discussing their dream of having a house and rabbits, they plan it down to the last detail and they think that they can accomplish it. The outcome however leaves George very melancholy and Lennie.... dead. This relates to the poem because any dream hard or easy to accomplish can go wrong. They decided not to take any steps toward accomplishing their dream. They think their dream is just going to magically happen without any effort. But that is not how it works. George and Lennie if they really wanted this would have went through hoops and saved money up. I think that this was a good title for this story by John Steinbeck because of the situations that George and Lennie end up being in.
The title of the novel Of Mice and Men relates to this poem because Lenny always does something harmful and in the poem To A Mouse, “Gang aft agley (often go wrong).” Also the person in the poem wants the other to “leave us nought but grief and pain for promised joy” , and George shot Lenny but before he died he was all happy and not sad or mad for what he did.
In the novel "Of Mice and Men" there are two full grown men that travel together in the time that seems like the Great Depression. They both always talk about a big dream of theirs which is to own acres of their own land and live off the fat of the land, tend rabbits and more. Lennie and George always discuss that they were different from other people because they save up their money to buy this land. Lennie is very different but not because of the money saving, he is mentaly challenged. He has a problem that he likes to touch soft things but he freaks out when something goes wrong. This effects him because when he is storking Curly's wife's hair she starts freaking out. Lennie panics and breaks her neck by accient. Now Curly is a very pugnacious character so when he spots his wife dead he says that he is going no make Lennie die a very slow painful death. Right there and then George tells himself he must kill Lennie himself to make Lennie die a quick death. All this relates to the poem, "The Mouse" because it says, "The best laid schemes o'mice and men/Gang aft agley [often go wrong]/And leave us nought but greif and pain/For promised joy!" This really translate to that the best planes that a man can have often go wrong and that if u go through pain a sufer to get promised joy. In the story George and Lennie have a dream that fails and George had to go through pain and sufrage when he kills his best friend just so Lennie wont hurt anyone else and it promises George no more struggle.
This poem relates to the story because the message in the poem is “the most carefully prepared plans may go wrong.” This is evident in the story of mice and men, because George and Lennie dream of owning a farm, which would enable them to support themselves, and most important offer them protection from an unwelcoming society, did not happen as planned. Their journey, which awakens George, proved that no matter how hard he tried to protect Lenny, eventually the predatory nature of the world reveals itself and George can no longer maintain the belief of happily ever after. George realizes the impossibility of their dream once Lenny killed Curly’s wife, while Lenny is still holding on to the hope that George will be too angry and not let him tend the rabbits, which leaves Lenny feeling grief and pain. The decision George made to kill Lenny spares Lenny being killed and tortured by Curley and his men. It also led to the realization that their dream would not happen.
Both the poem "To a Mouse" and the novel Of Mice and Men relate to each other. In the poem "To a Mouse", the author describes how everyone has dreams. In the novel, George and Lennie have dreams, they want to acquire land and start their own farm. In the poem, it describes how tragically, everyone's dreams and goals seam to always have a flaw in them and they go wrong. When Lennie gets frightened and attacks Curley's wife, George and Candy both know that this stunt has jeopardized their plans of becoming rich. This was a good title choice by Steinbech because the poem describes the same exact story except Steinbech has a lengthier and more details. Dreams don’t always work out in the way we planned. You have to work hard to accomplish your goals. Lennie and George’s story does a great job of showing that.
The title “Of Mice And Men” relates to the poem because they both talk about dreams and how they can either go very bad leaving you with grief and pain or they can go very well leaving you with promised joy. George and Lennie’s dream is the same as every mans dream… to have their own piece of land, to grow things, tend rabbits and just to have a place to stay. But their dream requires a lot of money which george and lennie don’t have. I think that John Steinbeck choose this title because it shows that a lot of dreams, even dreams that seem to be perfectly planned out can end up not how they expected them to. George and Lennie think its going to be easy to achieve their dream because they have eachother to look out for one another. What they don’t realize is that their dream is not very well planned out and that it could lead to grief and pain as it does at the end of the story
The title of the novel Of Mice and Men relates to the poem To A Mouse by Robert Burns, because the poem is about how men usually have plans that don’t often turn out the way they plan it to happen. In Of Mice and Men it deals with two men with a dream to have their own ranch. Their names are George and Lennie. George and Lennie end up not having the ranch. George ends up shooting Lennie because Lennie kept on getting introuble and he axidently killed the bosses son named Curly’s wife. After shooting Lennie, george felt very sullen. He knew that he had to kill Lennie, but he didn’t want to. This poem shows us that plans can lead to unhappiness. The poems title To a Mouse also sounds like it’s in a person’s perspective. In Of Mice and Men, it has a two person perspective; those two people are George and Lennie.
The title of the novel Of Mice and Men relates to the poem, To A Mouse because the poem says, “The best laid schemes o'mice and men/Gang aft agley [often go wrong]/And leave us nought but greif and pain/For promised joy!” The first line retains to the book in a way that they had a “scheme”, as in their dream. They wanted to have their own piece of the land, live off of the fat of the land, tend to the rabbits, and a lot more. That was their scheme; it was their best laid scheme because Candy said he had money that he could contribute to George and Lennie’s dream as long as he could live with them. George starting believing the dream could come true because after the month he would have $50 and then they could have enough money to buy the house and piece of land. Then, what went wrong, as the second line says, was that Lennie accidentally killed Curley’s wife, so then George had to kill him, so Curley would not kill him in a slow and painful death. That made their best laid scheme go wrong because then, they lost Lennie and George was very upset about killing him. Lennie was part of their scheme because he also contributed money. George also did not think that the plan would actually happen. The third line relates to the story because George had pain and grief about killing Lennie, and this was because of their scheme because if they didn’t want money for the land, then they would not have worked for the money, and they would have just left the job. Then last line also relates to the story because they went through the pain and grief just for a dream they had.
The title of Of Mice and Men comes from the poem To A Mouse because both of these pieces of literature are very alike. Both pieces have the same message, that dreams can go wrong and leave the dreamers with pain. In the novel Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George dream of owning their own ranch. "we're gonna have a little house and a couple of acres an' a cow and some pigs."(14) George knew from the beginning that their dream would never come true. He only went on with it because he knew that it made Lennie happy. At the end of the novel, we learned that the dream will not be achieved. Lennie ends up killing Curly's wife and was pursued as a fugitive. George then finds him and talks about the dream they have together. He then takes out Crook's gun and shoots Lennie in the head. George felt that he should kill Lennie because Lennie always gets into trouble and he would be in a better place if George killed him. Lennie was Georges roadblock from reaching his dreams. I feel that John Steinbeck did a wonderful job in choosing the title of the novel, Of Mice and Men from the poem To A Mouse because they both share the same message.
John Steinback gets the title for his book Of Mice and Men from the Robert Burn's poem To A Mouse. In the poem Burn's is apolgying to a mouse for turning over it's nest while he is ploughing a field. The main charcters in Steinback book are two drifters who are searching for a place of thier own. Geroge and Lennie (who is slow) dream of one day owning their own farm. Lennie who has a fondness for all things soft looks forward to the day when he can tend rabbits. But when the two start to work on a ranch their hope and dreams, like 'the best laid, schemes o' mice an' men" begins to be destroyed. By the end of the book we realize that George and Lennie will never have their own farm because Geogre kills Lennie after he murders Curley's wife by accident. LIke the mouse in the poem, George and Lennie are innocent victims to modern day greed. The two are like mice in a maze seraching for a desired object that will never be found.
